Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks . . . and a time for Thanksgiving kids games!

Over the years, a few Thanksgiving games have emerged as tried and true favorite holiday games at our home. They can be played indoors or out, and require very few props.

One of our favorite Thanksgiving kids games is, "bird, beast, or fish." Be ready! You have to think fast for this game.

All participants (this is fun for all ages!) sit facing the leader. The leader points to one of the players and says either "bird!" "beast!" or "fish!" The chosen player has to come up with the name of an animal that fits the category before the leader counts to ten. The game continues until one player remains. We play this game in rounds, which makes it harder and harder to come up with new critters!

Another favorite is what we call "turkey hunt:"

• Draw or paste a picture of a turkey on a dozen or so index cards.
• Everyone leaves the room except the leader.
• The leader hides the cards around the room.
• The "hunters" come back into the room and begin the hunt.
• When all the turkeys have been found and turned in to the leader, the hunter with the most turkeys is the winner and becomes the leader for the next round. Little kiddos really enjoy this game of turkey hide and seek.

Another great Thanksgiving kids game is a variation of an everyday game. All the players sit in a circle. The first player starts by saying "At my Thanksgiving dinner I ate turkey." The next player repeats this and adds another food item, such as "At my thanksgiving dinner I ate turkey and dressing."

The game continues with all participants adding a new food item onto all of the previous entries ? in the same order as already passed around the circle. When a player makes a mistake, he or she drops out until there is only one wizard remaining!
