Homeschooling
- Books, Tips and Advice

Books    Tips and advice

HomeschoolHomeschooling is becoming an ever increasingly popular option to traditional education options.

Obviously, education at home provides a unique structure that allows the parent to work in a child’s educational and emotional needs in a safe environment. When done properly, homeschooling can be very successful for both parent and child.

However, finding that fine line between “done properly” and “could be better” is not something that many parents can determine without a little advice and educational products to facilitate the process.

Advice on everything under the sun is offered up on the internet, whether you are seeking it or not. How can a homeschooling parent determine whether the site they are perusing is worth their time? Consider this, not every parent runs their homeschool the same as the next, and thus websites that only offer one particular style of homeschooling parents advice or supplies is missing the mark with about 90% of home education parents.

Whether you choose to keep your child at home for religious or safety reasons, for their own special needs or their ability to excel beyond their peers, you are most likely seeking new and different homeschooling books, tips, and advice than the parents at the last play date. Each family is in a different stage of homeschooling, thus you can’t offer blanket products or advice. Fortunately, there are a few sites that address the wide variety of needs without compromising on quality.

123KidsGames.com and Homeschooling

One of my favorite websites, which I ran across while doing a little research, is this fabulous not-so-little site called 123KidsGames.com.

This site has everything under the sun for any type of homeschooling parent. When I wanted to know how to understand how to listen to my 10 year old son’s educational needs, I picked up And the Skylark Sings with Me. When I wanted to enhance his Earth Science course with fun and engaging games, I found them, more than I thought I wanted, on this site.

Literature for Lively LessonsThe point is, that for the first time since I began homeschooling, I have found everything I need under one roof, which means that I no longer need to endure hours behind the mouse clicking and pointing only to find that the theme of the game wasn’t what it said it was or the site only offered two games and he played those last year. It is easier to put together quality, engaging, fun curriculum for any homeschooled child no matter what the parent’s educational angle is, and no matter how large or small the age gap between siblings may be. This site offers something for every age group at each educational level.

If You Need a Rush of Creative Inspiration

Homeschooling can be very rewarding. It can also test every last patient nerve in a parent’s body. Finding a site that can address the all around needs of an educating parent is a relief.

Sometimes there are questions regarding education, sometimes there are questions regarding handling specific situations (like those wonderful moments when your child decides he’s not interested in school today and he would rather go over to Johnny’s house) as well as questions regarding how to balance a parent’s needs with the child’s. As much fun as homeschooling is, sometimes parents just need a rush of creative inspiration.

Statistics have proven that homeschooling is a perfectly legitimate alternative to traditional education, and statistics also prove that parents who homeschool also require their own personal time and attention in order to prevent the dreaded “homeschool burnout.” Finding everything under one roof saves time, money, and most of all, the homeschooling drive to succeed.

Homeschooling - Tips and Advice

Brief History of Homeschooling

HomeschoolingPinpointing the beginning date of homeschooling is actually impossible. Aristotle tutored Alexander the Great 'at home' over 2,500 years ago. In fact, until the late 19th century, nearly everyone was 'homeschooled'. It was only in the second half of the 19th century that states began passing laws compelling parents to send their children to public schools...

Why Choose Homeschool?
Best Homeschooling ResourcesThe answers to the question posed by the title are as diverse as those who choose to homeschool. Parents opt for homeschooling for reasons ranging from a desire to instill certain values to the wish to remove students from an unsafe public school environment to the desire to provide a superior education. But the most basic, general reason for most is the well-founded belief that homeschooling is ultimately better for their child...
  Home vs Public or Private
Free HomeschoolingOne of the first questions parents ask about homeschooling is: Does it work? They know the public schools have problems, but they wonder if they can do any better. Maybe, they say, we should try a little harder to afford private school. With something as important as their child's education at stake, they're understandably cautious..

Homeschooling and College
Homeschooling ProgramWhile homeschool programs vary in approach, almost none attempt to incorporate or extend the type and level of education available in traditional colleges. Though many state and even private colleges and universities educate as poorly as public schools in general, there remain many outstanding ones...

The Homeschooling Philosophy
Homeschooling PhilosphyParents who homeschool their children choose to for a variety of reasons. Some have religious goals, others object to specific topics taught or methods of public or private schools. Still others simply believe they can provide a superior education themselves. But if one thing unites all these differing individuals it is but one thing: the belief that the public school system does a relatively poor job of educating children.

3 Homeschool Approaches
Homeschooling InfoThere are a dozen popular approaches to how to design a homeschool program for a child. They range from highly structured courses, to no structure at all. Over the past few decades, the many different styles have come to acquire some common names. Here are just three of the possibilities...

Unschooling, Freedom or Anarchy?
Pro and Cons of HomeschoolingUnschooling is an approach to homeschool education that represents the most unstructured approach to learning. It means, as the name suggests, not designing a curriculum at all. Instead, the child is allowed to explore any and all interests, at any pace and in any order they choose...

Do It Yourself Education...

HomeschoolingIn considering homeschooling, a kind of do-it-yourself education, one of the first questions to ask is: Who is the 'you' in 'yourself'? Parents have busy lives, earning a living and pursuing other important values that benefit them and their children. Making time for giving a proper education at home, especially for single parents, can be difficult. What to do?...

Homeschooling - Hiring Tutors

Homeschooling OnlineSome parents just aren't particularly suited to providing education. Yet they want the best education possible for their child and know that public school can't provide that. Private school is often economically out of reach, and still often a second-best in terms of quality. The solution is to hire a tutor...

Homeschooling and The Single Parent
Homeschooling MaterialsOne of the most daunting challenges is faced by those who wish to homeschool a child, but have no partner. For most in that situation, the need to earn enough income to support both parent and child is paramount. That can leave little time to devote to education. Private school is often economically out of reach for single parents, even when a good one can be found...

Homeschooling and the Law
Homeschooling PreschoolHomeschooling is completely legal. One common concern of parents contemplating homeschooling is the prospect of legal restrictions. They fear that homeschooling is either illegal, or that individuals have to jump through many hoops to avoid the government cracking down. The fear is somewhat justified, depending on where the family lives, but is usually larger than appropriate...

Homeschool Tips and Resources
Homeschooling ResourcesHomeschooling can quickly become an overwhelming enterprise. There's so much for parents to learn before they can begin to provide education for their child! But like any large and complex goal, breaking it down into easy-to-digest parts makes it possible to swallow each one without stomach upset...
